On August 6-7, volunteers from The Cultural Heritage Foundation, with the support of local governments and residents, cleaned up the Jewish cemetery in Mordy.
Volunteers work in the cemetery consisted of removing rubbish and clearing the area of self-seeders. Each participant in the voluntary work received gloves and tools. The works were carried out in agreement of The Rabbinical Commission for Jewish Cementaries operating at The Union of Jewish Communities in Poland.
The Jewish cemetery in Mordy was established at the beginning of the 19th century. To this day, about 150 tombstones can be found there. Inscriptions from legible matzevot have been inventoried and posted on the website http://cmentarze-zydowskie.pl/mordy.htm.
The work was possible thanks to the financial support from the Civic Initiative Fund Program for 2014-2020 of the National Freedom Institute – Center for Civil Society Development.
