A representative of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland met with members of the Coalition of Guardians of Jewish Cemeteries in the Bieszczady and Beskid Niski mountains region. On June 17-18, 2021, the meeting was attended by local volunteers – Jerzy Dębiec, Jacek Koszczan, Dr. Joanna Potaczek, Artur Górecki, Rabbi Pinchas Pomp and Sara Społowicz. Jewish cemeteries in Nowy Żmigród, Dukla, Wola Michowa, Lesko and Dynów became a place for exchange of information about the history of cemeteries and discussion of the activities of people and institutions caring for the memory of the fate of the Jewish population in those areas.
Separate meetings were held with Zdzisław Senczek, president of the Christian Community Association in Nowy Żmigród, as well as Grzegorz Bara, mayor of Nowy Żmigród and Andrzej Bytnar, mayor of Dukla. During the first meeting, the issues related to the commemoration of the victims of the mass murder in Hałbów were discussed. The second meeting concerned the plans for future cooperation between the local government authorities and the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage, aimed at commemorating Jewish communities living in the above-mentioned towns and their vicinity.
