Another cleanup was organized within the framework of the Coalition of Guardians of Jewish cemeteries – volunteer workshops were successfully completed! Thanks to funding from the National Heritage Institute’s program – Together for Heritage, the Cultural Heritage Foundation was able to support another cleanup of a historic Jewish cemetery in our country.
Under the auspices of the Coalition of Guardians of Jewish Cemeteries in Poland and in cooperation with the resilient Gliwice 66 Association, its member, we organized the cleaning of the Jewish cemetery in Tarnowskie Góry. The funds we obtained from the program of the National Heritage Institute – Together for Heritage, within the framework of the task Coalition of Guardians of Jewish Cemeteries – Volunteer Workshops, were used, among other things, to hire a professional company for mowing the grass and removing green waste, and to equip volunteers with all the necessary accessories for safe and effective cleaning of the historic cemetery.
Special thanks are due to Marek Panus and Anna Golkowska-Dymarczyk of the board of directors of the Gliwicka 66 Association, whose knowledge of the cemetery, contacts among the local community and commitment were instrumental in the success of the event, which nearly thirty people attended. Slawomir Pastuszka shared his extensive knowledge of tombstone commemorations and preservation in Jewish cemeteries with the participants. Below is a photo gallery from the event, and a video clip will follow shortly.
