At the beginning of June, cleaning works were carried out at the new Jewish cemetery in Łomża, Boczna Street. In this cemetery, functioning until the Holocaust, are buried, among others, the ancestors of former Israeli president Chaim Herzog and his son Isaac Herzog, who will take the office as the President of State of Israel on July 9, 2021. There are over 600 tombstones in the cemetery, out of over 4,000. graves – according to estimates by Antoni Dudo from Łomża Jewish Cemetery Foundation.
The initiator of the action of cleaning the cemetery in Łomża was Kazimierz Szczechura, a local social worker. The work was carried out as part of the activities of the Coalition of Guardians of Jewish Cemeteries.
