Cleaning works are currently (June 28-30, 2021) underway at the Jewish cemetery in Szczebrzeszyn. Volunteers rake and take away the cut greenery, help in maintaining single quarters, support the cleaning of the most interesting tombstones and collect rubbish left in the cemetery. It is also planned to mark selected tombstones with special plates with the translation of the inscriptions.
Employees of Zakład Gospodarki Komunalnej of the Szczebrzeszyn City Hall and the Municipal Cultural Center take part in the action. The coordinator of the action is Monika Tarajko, and the co-coordinator is Janusz Kapecki. In addition, support was provided by: Szczebrzeszyn City Hall, the Municipal Cultural Center in Szczebrzeszyn, the “Chrząszczowy Gród” Association, the Association of Szczebrzeszyn Friends, the BUSHIDO Szczebrzeszyn Association of Martial Arts and Sports and the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland.
The action is carried out with the support of a grant from the Minister of the Interior and Administration awarded to the Cultural Heritage Foundation for the activities of the Coalition of Guardians of Jewish Cemeteries in Poland.
